Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered
as a result of these events.
We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.
Every Tri Towns member that responded to these calls send their thoughts and condolences
to everyone touched by these incidents.

Three Mutuals In A 1/2 Hour

Tri-Towns EMS Runs Three Mutal Aid calls with-in a half hour on todays date of October 8, 2010. The Three calls are as follows.
At 1423 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) to assist the McCoole Fire Company (station 23) for a Medical Emergency on McMullen Highway. At 1423 hours Ambulance 352 and Medic Response 357 responded with a crew of 2 on both units under the command of EMS Chief Mowbray and Paramedic Chris Biggs onboard 357. With-in minutes of responding Ambulance 323 went responding and advised Allegeny County Communications that both of our units can return in-service. Both units returned in-service on Route 135.
At 1440 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) for the Medic assist to the Fountain Fire Department (station 39) and New Creek Fire Department (station 38) for a patient that had fallen 7-10 feet in the Ellifritz Addition in Fountain, WV. At 1441 hours Paramedic Response 357 responded with a crew of 4 under the command of EMS Chief Mowbray and Paramedic Chris Biggs onboard. At 1452 hours paramedic response 357 met BLS 38-70 and Brush 39 just as they were leaving the scene with the fall patient. Paramedic Biggs moved onboard BLS 38-70 and transported to Western Maryland Hospital as a Priority 2. Paramedic Response 357 was down graded to a BLS unit and returned in-service.
At 1443 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) to Transfer an ambulance crew to the New Creek Fire and EMS Company (station 38) as both of there EMS units were out on other calls in the area. At 1444 hours Ambulance 352 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of EMT Clay to station 38. Ambulance 352 returned to station 50 with-in a hour and a half of the call.

Tri Towns Run To Fountain

On Wednesday October 6, 2010 at 1132 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (Station 50) and McCoole Fire Company Ambulance (Station 23) for a medic assist to the Fountain Fire Company (Station 39) for a Full Arrest patient. Mineral County Commucations alerted Keyser EMS (station 57) and New Creek Fire Company Ambulance (station 38) for a medic unit as well. At 1133 hours Paramedic Response 357 responded with a crew of 4 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams and Paramedic Chris Biggs aboard 357 as well. While responding to meet BLS 39-70, Station 38 had medic Utility 38 responding they requested that our paramedic unit continue into the scene. At 1142 hours Paramedic Response 357 and medic Utility 38 met BLS 39-70 at Route 46 and Knobley Road. Upon arrival of meeting BLS 39-70, the crew from 357 applied the Auto Pulse to the patient that was in Full Arrest. All units cleared scene within 8 minutes of meeting BLS 39-70 and responded to Potomac Valley Hospital with Paramedic 39-70 to pick up the medic. Paramedic Response 357 returned in-service with-in two hours of the call.

Station 50 Alerted For The CO Detector

On Monday October 4, 2010 at 1200 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (Station 50) to assist Potomac Fire Company (Station 22) and Tri-Towns Fire Company (Station 24) for a Residental CO Detector with a patient feeling ill on Wood Street in Westernport. At 1203 hours Medic 351 and BLS Response 357 responded under the command of Deputy Chief Williams. Once units arrived on the scene the patient was moved to the ambulance by the fire crew that was already on the scene. The patient was checked by EMS crews from 351 and 357 but refused transport to the local hospital. Medic 351 obtained one signed refusal from the patient and was later released by Command 22. All units returned in service within a half-hour of the call.

Tri Towns Runs The Mandown

On Friday October 1st 2010 at 2056 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) for a man down with unknown Problems on Route 135 in front of Subway Restaurant. At 2057 hours Response 357 responded with a crew of 5 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams then moments later Ambulance 351 responded with a crew of 4 under the command of Asst. Chief Connor. When both units arrived on scene they found a male subject laying in the roadway not responding to anything that was said to him. The crews then fully backboarded the patient and placed him into the back of the unit for a priority 2 transport to Potomac Valley Hospital. Tri-Towns EMS members worked very well together on this call and had an outcome of 13 members on the scene for this call as well as members from Potomac Fire Company (station 22). All units and members cleared the scene within 20 minutes of the dispatch.

Tri Towns To Piedmont For Local 24-1

On Saturday September 25th 2010 at 2223 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) and Potomac Fire Company (station 22) to assist the Tri Towns Fire Company (station 24) on Local 24-1 for an unknown type fire on Lyons Street in Piedmont WV. At 2225 hours Ambulance 352 responded with a crew of 3 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams. while ambulance 352 and brush 22 were responding Deputy Chief 24 advised Mineral County Commucations that the call was a small camp fire to place all units in service with the expection of Brush 24. Crew from Brush 24 explained to the home owner of the burn ban in effect and put the fire out then returned in-service.

Tri Towns To Elk Garden For Box 144

On Wednesday September 15,2010 at 1632 hours Allegeny County alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) and Bloomington Fire Company (station 36) to assist the Elk Garden Fire Company (station 140) for Residental Box Alarm 144 for a house fire with flames and smoke showing on Kanter Cutoff Road in Elk Garden, WV. At 1635 hours Ambulance 350 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams. Command advised Mineral County Communications that this was not a house fire but an outside fire at the residence. Command held all units that already on the scene and placed the rest of the assignment in-service.

Pedestrian Struck With An Assault

On Tuesday September 14, 2010 at 0010 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) and Potomac Fire Company (station 22) to assist the Tri-Towns Fire Company (station 24) on a Rescue Local 24-1 for a subject struck by a car on Third Street in Piedmont WV. At 0011 hours Ambulance 350 responded with a crew of 3 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams. At 0013 hours Response 357 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of EMT Wildesen. Ambulance 350 was the first to arrive on the scene finding the patient laying along the roadway also finding that the car had fled the scene. Moments later Deputy Chief 24 arrived on scene establishing the Third Street command and placing Squad 22 in service. At 0033 hours Deputy Chief 24 requested the 2nd Ambulance from Station 50 and Mineral County Sheriff's Department to respond to the scene for an assault that had occured next to ambulance 350. At 0038 hours Ambulance 351 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of EMT Clay for the assault patient. Ambulance 350 packaged and loaded the origianl patient that was struck by the car into the unit and transported to Potomac Valley Hospital Priority 2 while Ambulance 351 treated the assault patient and also transported them to Potomac Valley Hospital Priority 2. Response 357 obtained one signed refusal from the second assault patient and was released by Deputy Chief 24 to return back in service. All units cleared the scene within 45 minutes.

Station 50 Runs To Piedmont

On Friday September 10, 2010 at 2242 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) and Potomac Fire Company (station 22) to assist the Tri-Towns Volunteer Fire Company (station 24) for a smoke investigation on Water Street in Piedmont WV. At 2244 hours Ambulance 350 responded with a crew of 3 under the command of Asstistant Chief Connor. While responding Engine 24-11 advised Ambulance 350 to stage at the Piedmont Post Office. Within minutes of arriving on the scene Deputy Chief 24 found that it was an illegal burn and placed Engine 221, Engine Tanker 22 and Ambulance 350 in-service but holding all 24 units on scene until the burn was extinguished. All units returned in-service within five to ten minutes of being on scene.

50 House Runs Commercial Alarm

On Friday September 10,2010 at 0643 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50), Potomac Fire Company (station 22), Tri-Towns Fire Company (station 24), Barton Fire Company (station 19) and Bloomington Fire Company (station 36) for the automatic commerical box alarm at the Moran Manor Nursing Home. At 0647 hours Ambulance 350 responded with a crew of 3 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams. Ambulance 350 arrived on the scene along with Engine Tanker 22 staging at Donna Street and Shady Lane. Fire crews checked the building found and took care of the issue. Ambulance 350 was released by Chief 22 along with station 19 and 36. All units where on scene for about 15 minutes before returning in service.

MVC On Russell Road

On Wednesday September 8th 2010 at 0944 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (Station 50) and the Barton Fire Company (Station 19) for a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Russell Road just inside the Garrett County line. At 0947 hours Ambulance 350 responded with a crew of 3 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams as well as Medic 351 responding at the same time with a crew of 4 under the command of 1st Lt. Ohaver and the county medic on board. While both units were responding Assistant Chief 19 advised communications of only one patient that will be transported from the scene. Upon arriving on scene the EMS crews found the patient out of the car and next to Engine Rescue 19 with thier crew. The patient was then placed on a backboard and put into Ambulance 350 to be transported to Western Maryland Hospital Priority 3, Medic 351 returned in service with no transport. Units where on scene for about 20 minutes before clearing the scene.

Busy Morning For Tri Towns

Beginning at 0153 hours Allegeny County Communications Alerted Tri-Towns EMS (Station 50) and the Barton Fire Department (Station 19) for an MVC near head-on on Barton Hill at D&D Motors. At 0157 hours Ambulance 350 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of Asst. Chief Connor. At 0159 hours Ambulance 351 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of 2nd Lt. O.Sweitzer and Response 357 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of EMT Wildesen. Engine Rescue 19 Removed the front doors so EMS crews could begin patient care and removal of patients from the Mini-Van. Once the door was removed from the mini-van the patients were removed from the vehicle and placed into Ambulance 350 and 351. Patient was then Transported to Western Maryland Hospital by both units Prioity 2. Response 357 obtained one sign refusal from the driver of the pick-up truck.
While enroute back from hospital Ambulance 350 handled second call at Grand-View Apartments for a fall patient.

Then again at 0853 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (Station 50), Potomac Fire Company (Station 22), Tri-Towns Fire Company (Station 24), Bloomington Fire Company (Station 36) and Barton Fire Company (Station 19) for the Automatic Commercial Box Alarm at Moran Manor Nursing Home. At 0856 hours Ambulance 350 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of Asst. Chief Tim Connor. Ambulance 350 was advised by Engine Tanker 22 to stage at the corner of Shady Lane and Donna Street with thier unit. Fire crews checked the building and found that a bad water connection within the building actived the alarm. Engine Tanker 22 then released Ambulance 350 from scene, all units remained on scene for about 30 mins before returning in service.

Tri Towns Handles Five Calls In Four Hours

On Monday August 30th 2010 Station 50 started thier morning out busy by running five back to back calls by noon time.
The 1st call of the day came at 0806 hours when Allegany County communications alerted Station 50 for a Medic Assist to the New Creek Fire Department for breathing problems. At 0809 hours Medic 357 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of 2nd Lt. R.Ohaver. Medic 357 met BLS 38-71 on Route 220 just about a half mile above Honeymooners. Our medic boarded BLS 38-71 and transported to Potomac Valley Hospital.
The 2nd call was at 0817 hours when Allegany County Communications alerted Station 50 to Third St in Piedmont for a Full Arrest as well as Mineral County Commucations Alerting Station 24 for the ambulance assist. At 0820 hours Ambulance 350 responded with a crew of 4 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams. Tri Towns station 50 already had an emt on the scene and advised of a Priority 4 patient. All units remained on scene until the West Virginia State Police arrived. The scene was turned over to WVSP and all units returned in service.

The 3rd call came at 0952 hours with Allegany Commucations alerting station 50 for a Medical Emergency on Third St in Piedmont. At 0954 hours Ambulance 350 and Medic Response 357 responded under the command of EMT Wildesen. All units remained on scene for about ten minutess. the Priority 3 patient was transported by ambulance 350 to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Medic Response 357 cleared the scene and responded to the 2nd call.
The 4th call of the day at 1003 hours Allegany County Commucations alerted Station 50 for our 2nd Ambulance call to West Harrison Street in Piedmont for a Subject Unable to walk. At 1004 hours Ambulance 351 responded with a crew of 3 under the command of 2nd Lt. R.Ohaver as well as Medic Response 357 clearing the 3rd call and responding to this call. Deputy Chief Williams met both units on scene. Within a few minutes Ambulance 351 with the medic from 357 cleared the scene and transported the Priority 2 patient to Potomac Valley Hospital.
The 5th call came at 1206 hours when Allegany County Commucations alerted Station 50 for a Trauma with Injury on Third Street in Piedmont. At 12:08 hours Ambulance 350 and Medic Response 357 both responded with a crew of 2 under the command of 2nd Lt. R.Ohaver. All units remained on scene for about ten minutes before Ambulance 350 cleared the scene and transported the a Priority 3 patient to Western maryland Regional Medical Center. Medic Response 357 returned in service as no ALS was needed.

Tri Towns Alerted For The MVA

On Sunday August 29th 2010 at 1654 Hrs Allegany County Communications alerted the Tri Towns EMS (Station 50), Potomac Fire Company (Station 22), and the Tri-Towns Fire Department (Station 24) for a report of a motor vehicle accident in the 300 block of Maryland Avenue. At 16:55 hours Ambulance 350 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams. ambulance 350 was the first to arrive on scene following Chief 22 at 16:56 hours. Ambulance 350's crew started patient care upon arriving on scene until Squad 22 was able arrive and extricate the patient from the vehicle. At 17:10 hours extrication was completed with the patient being placed into the ambulance. Company 50 units obtained three other signed refusals from the scene and transported one priority 2 patient to Potomac Valley Hospital.
While enroute back from Potomac Valley Hospital ambulance 350 handled a 2nd call on Poplar Street in Westernport for a ground level fall.

Tri Towns Alerted For The MVA

On Friday August 27th 2010 at 1924 Hrs Allegany County Communications alerted the McCoole Volunteer Fire Department (Station 23)for a head on collision on Route 220 at High Rock Drive involving an SUV and a car. Units arrived on the scene at 1924 hrs and confirmed 2 patients no entrapment extensive front end damage to both vehicle's. At 1930 hrs the Tri-Towns EMS (Station 50) along with the Keyser EMS (Station 57) were alerted for additional ambulances as well as the Keyser Volunteer Fire Department (Station 33) for an engine. At 1958 hrs Ambulance 351 responded with a crew of 2 and Asst. Chief Connor, and Ambulance 350 responded with a crew of 2 and Lt. Sweitzer. Ambulance 351 transported 1 priority 3 to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center with Ambulance 350 being returned to service.

Medics injured in MVA
On Friday August 20th 2010 at 0048 Hrs Allegany County Communications alerted the Tri-Towns EMS for a reported pedestrian accident involving a seriously injured person at 24807 Stoney Run Road. At 0108 hrs a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser operated by a Bureau of Police Officer was responding to the call and rounding a curve in the roadway in the area of the Waverly Street Bridge when he struck a 2005 Chevrolet ambulance that was making a U-turn in the roadway and positioning to drop off a paramedic to an awaiting Tri-Towns EMS ambulance. The police vehicle struck the left rear side of the ambulance, causing extensive damage to both vehicles, which were towed from the scene.
Both the police cruiser and the ambulance had their emergency lights activated when the accident occurred, police said.
The driver of the ambulance and a paramedic on board for the call were taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center along with the Bureau of Police Officer and the unidentified youth. All four were treated and released
Three people were transported by Tri-Towns EMS and one by the McCoole Volunteer Fire Department.
