Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered
as a result of these events.

We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.

Every Tri Towns member that responded to these calls send their thoughts and condolences
to everyone touched by these incidents.

Tri Towns EMS Alerted for the Vehicle Accident at FPW !

On Sunday December 30, 2012 at 20:09 hrs Allegany County Communcations alerted Engine Rescue 23 and Ambulance 50 for an Auto Accident on Route 135 in front of FPW Warehouse. At 20:12 hrs Ambulances 350,351,352 and Paramedic 357 responded for the call. when the first unit arrived on scene they found a Pick-up truck VS an Eighteen wheeler. Upon arrival the drivers of both vehicles were out of their auto while the passenger of pickup remained in his seat. He was backboarded and placed in 350. The Driver and Passenger of the pick-up truck was transported to RMC by Ambulance 350 and 351. Paramedic Josh Clark responded in 357 and transported in 350 with the passenger of the pickup. The driver of the semi signed a refusal.

Tri Towns EMS Alerted for the Chain Saw Incident !

On the afternoon of December 14th Allegany Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS as well as Bloomington VFC (Co 36) for the traumatic injury to the face involving a chain saw. ALS 351 as well as Engine 361 responded. Upon arrival of the ALS crew it was determined the patients best mode of transport would be air flight. Stat Medevac from Pittsburgh, PA was requested by our communications center via SYSCOM due to Trooper 5 stationed in Cumberland, Maryland already out on a call in Washington County. E361 set up the landing zone at the old site of Bloomington Elementary. ALS 351 cleared the scene without incident.

Tri Towns EMS Alerted for the Full Arrest !

Ambulance 351 was returning from a previous call when Allegany Communications alerted Tri Towns EMS at 15:00 hours for the full arrest at Moran Manor Nursing Home. Ambulance 351 with County Medic Chris Biggs and driver Randy Walters went enroute from the Keyser area. Ambulance 350 went enroute from the station with Deputy Chief Carey Williams, EMT James Mayhew and Driver Leeann Abernathy. Georges Creek Medic unit also went enroute to assist from Lonaconing. TTEMS Volunteer medic Josh Burkett responded in 357 and driver Jesse Bradley responded in his POV. The patient was loaded into the 350 and was transported to RMC Priority 1. Special Thanks to all personnel that responded and were able to assist the patient. A job well done by all those involved.

Tri Towns EMS along with Multiple Department to Frostburg Fire!

Allegany Communications alerted Tri Towns EMS along with the Multiple area EMS and Fire Departments at 20:33 hours for the working 2 story commercial structure fire at 16 Broadway Street in Frostburg MD. The two-story brick structure, which housed Triangle Printing and and an office for Braddock Construction, also contained five apartment units. Firefighters contained the blaze in a first floor apartment unit. The fire which sent two victims to the hospital was spared from extensive damage due to a quick response by firefighters. The two victims, tenants in the building, were taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment. The official cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. The blaze was reported under control by 9:40 p.m.

Companies responding included Frostburg MD, Co. 16, Mt. Savage MD, Co. 15, Shaft MD, Co. 17, Midland MD, Co. 18, Goodwill MD, Co. 20, Clarysville MD, Co. 14, Eastern Garrett Co. 80, Tri Towns WV, Co. 24, Ridgeley WV, Co. 25, Ambulances from Companies 50, 52, 53 & 55 also responded.

Tri Towns EMS along with McCoole Fire respond to the Motor Vehicle Accident!

Allegany Communications alerted Tri Towns EMS along with the McCoole Volunteer Fire Department at 12:49 hours for the single vehicle accident just north of Tom's Hollow Road on Route 220. Paramedic 351 responded with a crew of 3, Ambulance 352 responded with a crew of 2, Engine Rescue 23 and Maryland State Police also responded. Crews arrived on the scene to find the sole occupant of the vehicle out walking around. EMS obtained a refusual. The incident scene was turned over to Maryland State Police by Engine Rescue 23. All units cleared the scene at 13:10 hours. Members responding included county Medic Lori Moyer, Deputy Chief Carey Michelle Williams Christin Joy Feaster in 351. Garvis Hayes, James Mayhew in 352, and driver Leeann Abernathy met units on the scene.

Tri Towns EMS Responds 9 Calls in 36 hours !

Allegany Communications alerted Tri Towns EMS to a variety of calls from 00:30 hours on November 29th to 16:00 hours on November 30th. Call ranged from a Medical Alarm that was acidentally activated to an Amputation of a finger that required the patient to be flown to Baltimores Hand Center via Trooper 5. Other calls included two chest pain calls that the County Wide Medic and Paramedic Sweitzer handles to ground level falls and a non Traumatic Bleed. Members that assisted the community on these calls include: Paramedic L. Sweitzer, Chief E. Mowbray, County Medics C. Biggs and E. Yates, LT G. Abernathy, A. Clay, K. Haught, J. Jackson, C. Mayhew, J. Mayhew and T. Mayhew, L. Abernathy, T. Serpone, and R. Walters.

Tri Towns EMS Responds to Full Arrest !

Allegany Communications alerted Tri Towns EMS at 13:21 hours for a full arrest at 430 Hammond Street in Westernport. Less than 1 minute after the initial alert Tri Towns EMS went enroute with a full crew including 3 EMT's (Deputy Chief Williams, J. Mayhew, and Lt Brandt) and 2 Paramedics (County Wide Medic C. Biggs, 2nd Assistant Chief Sweitzer) along with Driver R. Walters. The crew called the arrest and returned to service

Tri Towns EMS Responds to Assist With the Search !

Allegany Communications alerted Tri Towns EMS at 01:49 hours for a possible vehicle accident on Route 46 (Mastellar's Road) in Beryl . Tri Towns EMS went enroute and once on the scene they searched the road along with units from Potomac Fire Company 22, Tri Towns Fire Company 24, Bloomington Fire Company 36, Elk Garden Fire Company 140, Keyser Fire Company 33, and Luke Fire Company 21.Nothing was located and all units returned to service.

Tri Towns EMS Responds Mutual Aid to Mineral County, W.Va !

Allegany Communications alerted Tri Towns EMS for the mutual assist to Mineral County West Virginia following a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 50 near Burlington, W.Va. One patient was flown to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Maryland State Police Medevac Trooper 5 personnel. A second patient was taken by ambulance to Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser, a dispatcher at the Mineral County 911 Center said. West Virginia State Police investigated the 10:42 a.m. accident. EMS units from Burlington, New Creek, Tri-Towns and Valley Medical responded as well as fire companies from Burlington and Fountain. A third person in the vehicle refused medical treatment, the 911 dispatcher said. No further information was available.

Tri Towns EMS All Ambulances Protecting the Southside !

Tri Towns EMS responded to multiple calls that resulted in all ambulances transporting patients to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Members that responded for the Southside Community on the calls were: President/Medic Bobby Pattison, Vice President/Capt. Medic Lynn "Pap" Sweitzer, Medic Josh Burkett, Garvis Hayes Kenny Haught, Randy Walters and county medic Chris Biggs. Thanks to all members who were able to support the community!!!

Tri Towns EMS crew works Full Arrest in Piedmont

Tri Towns EMS was dispatched for the breathing difficulty in Piedmont on October 23 2012. The family came outside when the ambulance pulled up and said he was no longer breathing. Seven members of Tri Towns EMS were on the scene to provide patient care. James Mayhew assessed the patient and found that he was in full arrest. Gary Bradley and Christina Mayhew started CPR. Medic Josh Clark arrived on the scene and provided ALS to the patient. The patient was then transported to PVH. Our thoughts and Prayers are with the patient and his family. Other members that assisted on the scene/ambulance were: Amber Clay John Jackson, Matt Satterfield and TJ Serpone

Tri Towns EMS Responds To Two Calls with the Bloomington VFC

Around 11:20 on 6 October 2012, Companies 36 (1st Responders) and Co 50 were alerted for a laceration at 128 N Branch Ave. At 11:24 Ambulance 352 responded. Later around 20:25 both companies were again alerted for the breathing difficulty at 4035 Westernport road. Ambulance 352 responded at 20:28.

Tri Towns EMS Responds To MVC in Westernport

On Tuesday September 24th at 14:58 hours Allegany Communications alerted the Potomac FD (Squad 22), Piedmont Engine (24-11) and Tri-towns EMS were alerted for a MVC with injuries at the intersection of RT 36 and Rt 135. At 1503 hours Ambulance 351 responded. There were two vehicles involved with a total of four patients, two of which were transported and two that signed refusals.

Tri Towns EMS Members Keep Busy

Early in morning of Thursday September 7th at 0100 Hours Ambulance 352 responded to 428 Spruce STreet in Westernport for the Medical Emergency.

Around 4 hours later at 05:05 hours Allegany Communications alerted the Tri Towns EMS (Company 50) to the Jennings Randolph Lake Campground for the ground level fall. Ambulance 352 responded on this call

Later in the afternoon at 11:15 hours Allegany Communications alerted the Tri Towns EMS (Company 50) for a laceration on Victory Post West in Westernport. Ambulance 352 responded at 11:27 hours to the call.

Tri Towns EMS Keeps The Southside Safe Morning, Noon, & Night

On Wednesday September 6th at 09:00 hours Allegany Communications alerted the Tri Towns EMS (Company 50), Bloomington Fire (Company 36/100), Kitzmiller Fire (Company 70), Deer Park Fire (Company 20), and The Southern Garrett Rescue Squad (Company 9) to the area of Route 135 and Swanton Hill Road on Backbone Mountain for the motor vehicle accident with injuries. A station wagon had entered Route 135 into the path of a tractor trailer and the passenger in the station wagon was ejected on impact. Potomac Fire (Company 22) was alerted to setup the landing zone for the medevac (Trooper 5). Route 135 was shut down for about 3 hours while two TTEMS crews worked on patients. The driver of the station wagon was transported to Garrett Memorial Hospital by TTEMS with one being airlifted from the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer signed a refusal.

In the afternoon at 14:00 hours Ambulance 352 responded to 18101 Skyline Drive SW in Barton for a medical emergency.

Later in the Evening at 17:00 hours Ambulance 352 along with a crew from Barton Hose Company (Co 19) responded to an unconscious unresponsive subject at 19704 Lower George’s Creek Road in Barton.

On Tuesday September 5th at 07:05 hours Allegany Communications alerted the Tri Towns EMS (Company 50), Barton Hose (Company 19) to 19504 Sugar Maple Road in Barton for the patient with Abdominal and Back pains. Ambulance 350 along with Mini Pumper 36 responded on this call.

Two Mutual Assignments

On Monday September 4th at 18:00 hours Allegany Communications alerted the Tri Towns EMS (Company 50), Bloomington Fire (Company 36/100) to 1437 Walnut Bottom Road on Backbone Mountain for the patient with chest pains. Ambulance 350 along with Mini Pumper 36 responded on this call.

Again at 19:15 hours Allegany Communications alerted the Tri Towns EMS (Company 50), Barton Hose (Company 19) to Railroad Street in Barton, Maryland for the assault victim. Ambulance 351 responded on this call.

Single Vehicle Accident

On Wednesday August 15th Allegany Communications alerted the Tri Towns EMS to the area of Route 135 in the dip for the motor vehicle accident. Paramedic 350, BLS 351 along with 357 responded. Chief 50 (Mowbray) established Route 135 command. After the initial examination crews transported 1 patient in Paramedic 350 with Assistant Chief Williams.

Alerted on the call were Bloomington Fire Company, Tri Towns EMS Company, Tri Towna WV Fire Department.

Tri Towns EMS Responds For The Mutual Aid MVC With Rollover

On Thursday August 9th at 0809 hours the Tri Towns EMS (Station 50), and Potomac Fire Company (Station 2) were alerted mutual aid to the Tri Towns WV Volunteer Fire Department (Station 24) on Route 46 east of Piedmont, WV for the motor vehicle collision with injuries vehicle on its top. Keyser Fire Department also responded on this call.

Tri Towns EMS Responds For The Mutual Aid MVC

On the afternoon of Wednesday August 8, 2012 at 17:38 hours, Tri-Towns EMS was alerted along with Bloomington Fire Company 36, and Potomac Fire Company 22 to respond to the area of 17694 Maryland Highway for a Motor Vehicle Accident. Ambulances 350, 351, 352 and Paramedic 357 responded in addition to Engine 361, Mini Pumper 36, and Squad 22. Command was established and there was determined to be 6 patients for transport. Deputy Chief 50 requested two additional ambulances as well as Trooper 5. Squad 22 cleared the scene to establish an LZ nearby under the command of A. Edwards. Ambulance 350 along with the Paramedic from 357 transported one patient to the LZ for air flight by Trooper 5 to WMRMC. Ambulances 351 and 352 transported the additional patients to WMRMC for evaluation. Southern Garrett Rescue responded an ambulance to the scene but was placed in service.

Motor Vehicle Accident

On the afternoon of Friday July 13th at 16:00 hours Allegany Communications alerted the Tri Towns EMS to the area of 20960 Maryland Highway for the motor vehicle accident. Ambulances 350 & 351 along with 357 responded. Chief 36 (Bloomington) along with Mini Pumper 36 arrived on the scene establishing Maryland Highway command advising of 4 patients with 1 Priority one entrapped. After the initial examination crews transported 3 patients and obtained 1 signed refusal.

Alerted on the call from Allegany County were Potomac Fire Company, Bloomington Fire Company, Tri Towns EMS Company, New Creek Fire Department, Georges Creek EMS, Keyser EMS, Southern Garrett EMS.

Residential Structure Fire

On the morning of Tuesday July 3rd at 04:05 hours Allegany Communications alerted the Tri Towns EMS to 52 West Hampsire Street in Piedmont, WV for the house fire. Upon arrival first due . After the initial examination crews located a rear porch with the roof completley burned off. The structure was made of brick otherwise there would have been more extension into the residence. There was some extension to a neighboring residence.

Alerted on the call from Allegany County were Potomac Fire Company 22, Barton Fire Company 19, McCoole Fire Company 23, Bloomington Fire Company 36, Tri Towns EMS Company 50, and from Mineral County, WV Piedmont Fire Company 24, Keyser Fire Company 33, Midland Fire Company 18 was placed on Stand-By at Company 24.

Tri Towns EMS Responds To The Automatic Fire Alarm

On Sunday March 11th Tri Towns EMS (Station 50), Potomac Fire Company (Station 2), Tri Towns Volunteer Fire Department (Station 24), Barton Volunteer Fire Department (Station 19), And The Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department (Station 36) were alerted to 25801 Shady Lane in Westernport for the automatic fire alarm.

Tri Towns EMS Responds For the MVC

On Friday March 2nd Tri Towns EMS (Station 50) was alerted to Church Street near the Mcdonalds of Westernport for the motor vehicle accident with entrapment and injuries. Potomac Fire Company (Station 2), Tri Towns Volunteers Fire (Station 24), Georges Creek EMS (Station 55), and Medic 9 assisted on this incident.

Tri Towns EMS Along With Potomac Fire Company Respond to the Amputation

On Wednesday February 22nd Tri Towns EMS (Station 50) were alerted to an area Church for a construction accident. Communications advised of a male patient with a laceration to the hand. Upon arrival EMS crews learned that a male patient was using a circular saw and had accidentally amputated 3 fingers. With the prompt response of the crew and quick action by alerting Maryland State Police Aviation Trooper 5 the patient was treated and quickly transferred to Trooper 5, The patient was flown directly to Union Memorial Hospital in downtown Baltimore which houses the state hand center. Potomac Fire Company (Station 2) established the landing zone at the Maryland Avenie Ball Field. Great prompt fast action by all!

Today we operate out of a much newer and larger station located 1 mile east of the old Station on Route 50
