Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered
as a result of these events.
We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.
Every Tri Towns member that responded to these calls send their thoughts and condolences
to everyone touched by these incidents.

Mutual Stand By

On Saturday October 30, 2010 at 1018 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) for an ambulance and crew to stand-by at station 50 for Georges Creek Ambulance (station 55) while they were out on a search for a missing person at Dans Rock in the Midland, MD area. While on stand-by station 50 handled two calls the first one in our first due area on Aaron Street in Piedmont, WV for a sick person. The second one was in Company 55's first due area on Dutch Row for a patient with back and ankle pain. First call was a signed refusal and the second call was transported to RMC Priority 3 by BLS 351. Station 50 had 3 BLS crews in station the whole day while on stand-by to cover station 55's first due. Station 50 was released from stand-by around 1630 hours.

Mutual Assist

On Thursday October 28, 2010 at 1734 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) and Potomac Fire Company (station 22) for the ambulance assist for a bicycle accident on Kolberg Drive in Westernport. At 1737 hours Ambulance 350 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams. Upon arrival the patient was backboarded by crew members as well as Potomac Fire members. The patient was then placed into the ambulance and transported to RMC Priority 2. Special Thanks to the members of Potomac Fire Co. 22 for their assistance. It never goes unnoticed :)

Motor Vehicle

On Wednesday October 27,2010 at 1546 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50), Potomac Fire Company (station 22) and Tri-Towns Fire Company (station 24) for the two vehicle accident at the corner of Main Street and Church Street in Westernport. At 1547 hours Ambulance 350 responded with a crew of 3, Ambulance 351 with a crew of 2 and Paramedic 357 all responded under the command of Deputy Chief Williams. Company 50 units were the first units to arrive on the scene to find a minor two vehicle accident with little damage to both cars. Patient assesment to all subjects in both vehicles required a total of three signed refusals which was obtained by Ambulance 350 and Ambulance 351. All units remained on the scene for about 20 minutes before returning in-service.

Transfer To New Creek

On Monday October 25th 2010 at 1506 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) for an ambulance and crew to transfer to New Creek Fire and EMS (station 38) due to both EMS units being out on an Auto Accident in the Burlington WV area with Burlington Fire Company (station 44). At 15:07 hours Ambulance 351 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams. Ambulance 351 remained at station 38 for about an hour before returning in-service once New Creek EMS had a unit back in service.
Medic Assist To Keyser EMS

On Monday October 25th 2010 at 1159 hours Allegeny County Commucations alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) for a medic assist to Keyser EMS (station 57) for a trauma with injury at the Keyser Middle School. At 1200 hours Paramedic 357 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of EMS Chief Mowbray. There were also two patients at this location, Mineral County Commucations alerted New Creek EMS (station 38) for the 2nd patient. After the paramedic from 357 performed his patient assessment to the patient BLS 57-70 was assigned it was determined the patient could be transported by a BLS crew and no ALS would be needed. After loading the patient into BLS 57-70 Paramedic 357 returned in-service.

MVC (Motorcycle)

Again on October 24th 2010 at 1353 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) and Barton Fire (station 19) for a Motorbike accident on Aarons Run Road just inside the Garrett County line with one patient injured. At 1355 hours Ambulance 351 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of EMT Wildesen. At 1406 hours Ambulance 351 arrived on scene right behind Engine Rescue 19, crews found the patient and Motorbike to be off the roadway near a ditch. Both Fire and EMS crews begen to package the patient for transport with a medic unit out of Frostburg EMS (station 53) requested to meet BLS 351 on the scene of the accident. The on-scene crews got the patient packaged and loaded up into BLS 351 for transport to Western Maryland Hospital Priority 2. While enroute to RMC BLS 351 met Frostburg Medic 364 at D&D Motors along Route 36 in the Barton area. Station 50 held its additional BLS ambulance crews in station and only responded one unit due to there only being one patient. Ambulance 351 returned back in-service within three hours of the accident.

Medic Assist to the Garden

On Sunday October 24, 2010 at 0114 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) for a medic assist to Elk Garden EMS (station 4), Elk Garden Fire (station 140) on Route 42 in the Blaine Area for an Auto Accident with entrapment and multiple patients. At 0115 hours Paramedic 357 responded with a crew of 3 under the command of Paramedic C.Green while responding to call Engine Rescue 140 arrived on the scene advising Mineral County Communications that there were no patients and no one around the accident scene all medic units could return in-service. Paramedic 357 returned in-service on Route 135.

Gas Leak in Piedmont

On Tuesday October 19th 2010 at 1822 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50), Potomac Fire Company (station 22), Bloomington Fire Company (station 36) and Barton Fire Company (station 19) to assist Tri-Towns Fire Company (station 24) on the Residental Box Alarm 24-1 for a Natural Gas Leak inside a Residence on Lyons Street in Piedmont, WV. At 1828 hours Ambulance 351 responded with a crew of 3 under the command of 2nd Lt. Onie Sweitzer, command advised for ambulance 351 to stage on the corner of Third Street and Lyons Street. Fire Crews searched the residence finding the problem and shutting off the gas to the Residence. All units units remained on scene for about a half hour before returning in-service.

Odor Investigation in Piedmont

On Wednesday October 13, 2010 at 2020 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50), Potomac Fire Company (station 22), Bloomington Fire Company (station 36), Barton Fire Company (station19), and Frostburg Fire Company (station 16) to assist the Tri-Towns Fire Company (station 24) for Commerical Box 24-1 for a Noxious Odor in a Commercial Business. At 2021 hours Ambulance 351 responded with a crew of 3 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams. Command 24 advised the unit to stage on the corner of Ashfield and Third Street behind Engine 221 and Engine 361. Fire Crews Searched the Business and found the Odor was coming from four-wheelers that were parked inside the building. Command requested the Mineral County Sheriff's Department called to have the owner remove them from the building since they refused when asked by fire crews. All units remained on-scene for an hour until sitaution was corrected.

Station 50 Runs Mutual Assist

On Monday October 11, 2010 at 1240 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) for a medic assist to the New Creek Fire Company Ambulance (station 38) for a Chest Pain patient that was a walk-in at there station. At 1241 hours Paramedic Response 357 responded under the command of EMS Chief Mowbray and Paramedic Chris Biggs on board. At 1244 hours Paramedic Response 357 met BLS 38-70 on the Maryland side of the Keyser Bridge, Paramedic Biggs boarded BLS 38-70 and Paramedic Response 357 was down-graded to a BLS unit and returned in-service.

Three Mutuals In A 1/2 Hour

Tri-Towns EMS Runs Three Mutal Aid calls with-in a half hour on todays date of October 8, 2010. The Three calls are as follows.
At 1423 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) to assist the McCoole Fire Company (station 23) for a Medical Emergency on McMullen Highway. At 1423 hours Ambulance 352 and Medic Response 357 responded with a crew of 2 on both units under the command of EMS Chief Mowbray and Paramedic Chris Biggs onboard 357. With-in minutes of responding Ambulance 323 went responding and advised Allegeny County Communications that both of our units can return in-service. Both units returned in-service on Route 135.
At 1440 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) for the Medic assist to the Fountain Fire Department (station 39) and New Creek Fire Department (station 38) for a patient that had fallen 7-10 feet in the Ellifritz Addition in Fountain, WV. At 1441 hours Paramedic Response 357 responded with a crew of 4 under the command of EMS Chief Mowbray and Paramedic Chris Biggs onboard. At 1452 hours paramedic response 357 met BLS 38-70 and Brush 39 just as they were leaving the scene with the fall patient. Paramedic Biggs moved onboard BLS 38-70 and transported to Western Maryland Hospital as a Priority 2. Paramedic Response 357 was down graded to a BLS unit and returned in-service.
At 1443 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (station 50) to Transfer an ambulance crew to the New Creek Fire and EMS Company (station 38) as both of there EMS units were out on other calls in the area. At 1444 hours Ambulance 352 responded with a crew of 2 under the command of EMT Clay to station 38. Ambulance 352 returned to station 50 with-in a hour and a half of the call.

Tri Towns Run To Fountain

On Wednesday October 6, 2010 at 1132 hours Allegeny County Communications alerted Tri-Towns EMS (Station 50) and McCoole Fire Company Ambulance (Station 23) for a medic assist to the Fountain Fire Company (Station 39) for a Full Arrest patient. Mineral County Commucations alerted Keyser EMS (station 57) and New Creek Fire Company Ambulance (station 38) for a medic unit as well. At 1133 hours Paramedic Response 357 responded with a crew of 4 under the command of Deputy Chief Williams and Paramedic Chris Biggs aboard 357 as well. While responding to meet BLS 39-70, Station 38 had medic Utility 38 responding they requested that our paramedic unit continue into the scene. At 1142 hours Paramedic Response 357 and medic Utility 38 met BLS 39-70 at Route 46 and Knobley Road. Upon arrival of meeting BLS 39-70, the crew from 357 applied the Auto Pulse to the patient that was in Full Arrest. All units cleared scene within 8 minutes of meeting BLS 39-70 and responded to Potomac Valley Hospital with Paramedic 39-70 to pick up the medic. Paramedic Response 357 returned in-service with-in two hours of the call.
